Polio vaccinations for children aged 1-9

All children aged 1 to 9 in London are being offered a booster or catch-up dose of polio vaccine. The best way to prevent polio is to make sure you and your child are up to date with your vaccinations.

The vaccine is inactivated, which means it does not contain any live bacteria or viruses. It cannot cause any of the infections it protects against. Check your child’s red book to make sure your child is up to date with their childhood immunisation. For more information, please read NHS vaccinations and when to have them.

You do not need to call your GP surgery for a polio vaccination. Your surgery will contact you.
